Have you ever wondered what it was like Mining Coal?
|Have you ever wondered what it was like Mining Coal?
Well, I have a number of friends who worked in both the Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire Coal Fields, they have told me how hard it was many times.
However, if you live in Yorkshire or are visiting you can find out more at the National Coal Mining Museum for England.
It has lots of Car Parking and easy access. I have taken friends and family members a number of times and they have always enjoyed it. I think that it’s fair to say it was a lot more difficult than perhaps the museum shows, however, it’s still very much worth the visit.
The Museum is based at the former Caphouse Colliery, New Road, Overton, Wakefield, WF4 4RH. Do take a minute to visit their website and find out more.
There are opportunities to go on an Underground visit, you will get kitted out with your hard hat and battery lamp then step into the ‘cage’ to descend 140m underground to discover the harsh realities of coal mining through the centuries. If going underground then please keep in mind that this a real coal mine, warm clothes and sensible flat shoes are recommended.
