Some History
The idea for this event (Former Colliery Sites on the Air) came about after using a local Former Colliery Site for a Special Event Station.
The aim was to make the event accessible to new Amateur Radio Foundation License holders, hence the minimum requirements of 2m FM and a power limit of 10 watts, lastly because you may not be able to get access to the site being within one 1km is allowed.
It was planned that the event should take place in June as close to the longest day as possible to give as much daylight as we could. Although this has not always been possible.
The credit for the idea goes to Paul M0PJA and Denis M0USV
